Happy holidays from all of us here at the Montreux Golf Shop. Whether you are cozied up enjoying our winter weather here in the Reno area, or you have traveled to somewhere warmer, we hope you are enjoying this time of year. Hopefully, you even snagged a new golf club or two during our Christmas sale!
This month’s Golf Tip Tuesday we will continue our focus on body movement in your swing, with the emphasis on using your hips and eliminating unnecessary movement with your hands and arms. For this month’s tip you will need two alignment sticks. These are available out on the range, as well as up in the simulator. You can also pick up a set of sticks from the Golf Shop, or even at your local Home Depot!
Start by taking the first alignment stick and placing it through your belt loops, you will want the long end to be extended out to the left side of your body. The alignment stick is going to be your visualizer for how your hips are moving during your swing. When you rotate on your axis, the left side of the alignment stick should move in line with the ball up to 45 degrees, or even up to 90 degrees with a full rotation.
The main use of these alignment sticks is going to be to practice an impact drill. Get into your normal golf swing position, with the second alignment stick placed behind you. If you are out on the driving range you can just jab it into the ground, but if you are in the simulator please use a basket! What you are going to notice here is that if you are not rotating your hips enough through your swing, the stick placed in your belt loop will not reach the second stick behind you. If you find the stick in your belt loop going over the stick in the ground, it is because you are lifting too much in your shot. Spend some time practicing your shot, making sure you are hitting the second alignment stick. After enough shots with this drill, you will see your shot has improved and is straighter!
That is your Golf Tip Wednesday for the month of January! We hope to see you up in the simulator practicing this drill, if you would like to see a video version of this month’s tip, click here. We hope you had a great rest of your 2020. We are already counting down the days until warm weather is back on the radar, and we are back out on the course enjoying plenty of rounds of golf.
