Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of year because not only do you get to have a big, delicious meal, but there is a feeling of joy in the air.
With Thanksgiving comes the act of being thankful and practicing gratitude. Gratitude is a feeling that is a key to happiness and is not something that should only be saved for once a year. Practicing gratitude all year long is good for you! It can be experienced and expressed in every context of your life.
According to many different studies and professors of psychology at US Davis, gratitude can lower blood pressure, improve immune function and facilitate more efficient sleep. As if there weren’t enough reasons already to be thankful!
Here at Montreux, there are so many things that we are grateful for all throughout the year. We live in a four seasons mountain community that has beautiful weather in every month of the year. The winter months are filled with peaceful snowfall and lots of winter activities. Whether you like to ski or snowboard, or you’re more of the snowshoeing type, there are many choices just outside your front door. Even if you’re more of the après-type, the Reno-Tahoe area has tons of fabulous restaurant and bar choices for you to warm up by the fire. For the children, they can sled all over the community and even ice skate on the pond at 18 when it freezes over.
In the fall, summer, and spring, we have the ability to enjoy the greatest game there is – golf! With tons of mixers, men’s and ladies’ days, tournaments, scrambles and friendly competitions, the staff at the Golf Shop makes it easy to enjoy our beautiful Jack Nicklaus Signature course. Ours is still the only Jack Nicklaus course in Northern Nevada and is one of Jack’s top five favorite designs. He even came to the opening tournament in 1997 and played the very first round on the course with LPGA legend Patty Sheehan.
The warmer months are also an excellent time to enjoy hiking, walking, mountain biking, bird watching, kayaking, boating and more. Northern Nevada is a mecca of outdoor recreation and Montreux’s location puts you perfectly between Reno and Tahoe so you can take advantage of all that both places have to offer.
We are all capable of feeling grateful, but sometimes we get too busy to notice all of the things we can feel thankful. Practicing gratitude is the feeling of noticing and savoring it. Some ways you can actively practice gratitude are:
- Share it with others – when you feel it, say it
- Express appreciation to someone for something they have done
- Write a gratitude journal
- Write thank you notes
